Sisters Circle has built a dynamic and diverse community of women who serve as one-to-one mentors and advocates for middle and high school girls in Baltimore. Supported by a research-based developmental assets framework, a consistent and loving adult will express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities. Our model provides access to new opportunities, sparks mutual learning and growth, and expands each young woman's vision of herself and her future.
One-to-one mentors are paired with a seventh or eighth grade girl, and serve as a consistent presence throughout the high school years. Along the way, we help our mentees to envision and create a post-secondary plan through: (1) one-to-one mentorship and advocacy, (2) monthly match programs focused on access and awareness, (3) personalized college and career access advising, and (4) college and career readiness summer enrichment programs. Volunteers take part in a two-hour new mentor orientation prior to meeting their mentee, and receive ongoing support and coaching over time.
