Our 6 Global Teams have kicked off their training and prep for the 6 global trips planned this year to Guatemala, Kenya and the Dominican Republic. As a team nears their departure date, I would like to send them off with a Commissioning Service and some some encouragement and words of wisdom in the form of a Palanca Letter and/or letter of encouragement. Agreeing to step into the mission field is one done after a lot of discernment, prayer and sacrifice and I would love the travel teams to see all the love and support they have back here when they undoubtedly will start to doubt their decision or feel nervous about what they are undertaking.
If you are unaware of what a Palanaca Letter is, it is an expression of spirituality, written to uplift, support and encourage a friend or family member. They can express gratitude for the gifts of service, prayer, concern and care shown by the recipient, express what they did or said that brought you joy, offer insights, words of wisdom, encouragement and guidance and finally to reassure them of a power greater than themselves, a divine presence and that God loves them.
A Palanca Letter should be short (one page) and include the following:
A warm salutation
An example of something the recipient may have done or said that touched you or an observable behavior that has inspired and/or moved you by its nature of kindness.
Offer words of wisdom.
I would love to give travel team members these letters at their Commissioning Service.
